Failure modes you should treat differently
Public API failures usually fall into four buckets: invalid API keys, missing scopes, plan gating, and validation issues. Your app, automation recipe, or agent should branch on them explicitly.
401 UNAUTHORIZED
Missing, invalid, expired, or revoked API key.
403 FORBIDDEN
The API key exists, but it does not have the required scope.
403 UPGRADE_REQUIRED
The organization has reached a plan limit for the requested API workflow.
400 VALIDATION_ERROR
The request shape or required fields are invalid.
